Yesterday, candidates sought approval from voters in what was an incredibly rainy Election Day across the state. Early indicators show that turnout was down all across Indiana, which certainly made for some interesting races. Check out the results of the hottest primaries below:
Former Republican State Senator Erin Houchin garnered more votes than her five competitors in the race to fill Congressman Trey Hollingsworth‘s vacant seat next year.
Republican candidate Spencer Deery won the race to fill former State Senator Phil Boot’s seat.After being drawn into the same district during the 2021 Indiana redistricting process, State Rep. Bruce Borders ousted State Rep. Jeff Ellington in a tight contest. Also drawn into the same district, State Senator Gary Byrne came out on top over State Senator Kevin Boehnlein in another tight race. State Rep. Craig Snow easily ousted State Rep. Curt Nisly after the two incumbents were also drawn into the same district. Republican candidate Becky Cash beat her opponents in the race to fill former State Rep. Don Lehe’s seat.In the race to fill former Rep. Tony Cook’s seat, two Republican candidates, Suzie Jaworowski and Fred Glynn, remain in a virtual tie as the clerks continue to count the remaining ballots.Republican candidate Mark Genda and Democratic candidate Greg Woods will square off in the General Election in November as they fight to fill former State Rep. Tim Brown’s seat.Republican candidate Kendall Culp took the top spot in the race to fill former State Rep. Doug Gutwein’s seat.Republican candidate Robb Greene ousted the incumbent State Rep. John Young in Indiana District 47.Incumbent State Rep. Dan Leonard (who was rumored to fill the vacant Ways and Means Chairmanship) was ousted by Republican candidate Lorissa Sweet. Democratic candidate Andrea Hunley and Republican candidate Evan Shearin will face off in November for the seat in the newly created Senate District 46.Republican candidate Cory Criswell came out on top in the race to fill former State Rep. Tom Saunder’s vacant seat.Republican candidate Lindsay Patterson garnered more votes than her contenders to fill former State Rep. Cindy Ziemke’s vacant seat.Republicans candidate Craig Haggard came out on top in the race to fill former State Rep. Sean Eberhart’s seat.Republican candidate Brad Hall and Democratic candidate Penny Githens advance to the November election in their bids to fill the vacant District 62 seat.Republican candidate Jennifer Meltzer won the primary in her effort to fill the vacant District 73 seat.Republican candidate Davyd Jones and Democratic candidate Kyle Miller will square off in the November election fight for the vacant District 82 seat.Republican candidate Julie McGuire beat the incumbent State Rep. John Jacob by a large margin in their fight to represent the south side of Indianapolis.
